They thought it was all over…it is now!

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Bish bosh, its over!

The key hand came on a flop of A-8-T when Kevin announced all in and Allan called.

Kevin had A-K and Allan was dominated with A-2. The turn was a 6 and the river a king.

That left Allan with 11,500 chips and it was all in on the next hand. This time Kevin had A-T to Allan’s J-6, but a board of 9-K-5-9-Q brought no improvement for Allan and with that it was all over bar the handshakes. Walsall’s Kevin Parkes, a van salesman, is the first GUKPT Summer Series Champion.

In the post event awards ceremony Kevin commented that he was delighted to have won, as he had bubbled several times before in GUKPT events. It is however not the first time Kevin has lifted a GUKPT trophy as he won a side event here in Bolton on the 2008 tour.

Allan McLen took home £8,470 for the runner up position while Kevin gets the trophy and £12,700 plus that all important seat in the Champion of Champions tournament.

Congratulations to Kevin from everyone at GUKPT HQ.

Allan McLean v Kevin Parkes

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Both players are even in chips with about 385,000 each. It could be a classic heads up encounter, but I feel it will ultimately come down to one big hand, as per most poker tournaments.

Heads Up

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Lee Atherton has departed in 3rd place for £5,780. He moved all in with K-Q and was called by Allan McLean who had A-J. The board came 4-3-8-3-J to send the chips to Allan and send Lee home. No repeat of his Poker 6 victory this time, but a great performance from the Altrincham lad.

Kevin Takes a Big Pot Down

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Kevin has won a big pot from Allan. With betting on every street and a board of 9-J-8-T-K, Kevin showed K-9 to Allan’s T-9. The pot was over 100,000.

Greg Hunt out in 4th

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

After a lengthy dwell, Greg Hunt called Kevin’s all in bet. Greg had A-J but wasnot happy to see that Kevin had pocket jacks. The board brought no improvement for either player, so Greg departs in 4th place for a £3,460 payday. He qualified online for this for $100. Not a bad spin up.

£300 Freezeout Finalist Photo Op!

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Placed 3rd in the £300 freezeout, Olabode Ayegun posed outside the casino for us… although he didn’t buy the car with his prize-money!

Bradshaw Out!

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Andy Bradshaw has been taken out by Allan McLean. He had pocket kings and was committed on a flop of 9-A-Q, pushing in for his remaining 40,000 or so. Allan snap called, showing A-J. A 7 and a 3 on the turn and river did not change the situation, so Andy departs in 5th place for £2,600.

Greg doubles up

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Greg Hunt has doubled up to 160K. He pushed all in with A-T and was called by Andy Bradshaw who had a pair of jacks. The flop was 2-4-9. The turn was an 8 and inevitably an ace on the river shipped the pot to Greg and keeps his tournament life intact.

On the next hand Andy pushed all in, but found no callers.

The blinds are now 4,000-8,000 with a running ante of 500.

30 minutes until the dinner break.
